Moscow: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov responded to statements by Western countries about the arrest of Alexei Navalny.
According to the head of the Foreign Ministry, this is, as always, the intrigues of the West, in order to divert attention from the crisis in which the liberal model of development finds itself.
“We see how we have now seized upon yesterday's news about Navalny's return to Russia. One can directly feel the joy with which the comments go, as if they were a carbon copy”, - he said.
On January 17, Navalny was detained at Sheremetyevo airport.
Recall that the head of the European Council Charles Michel and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell appealed to the Russian authorities with an appeal to release the arrested opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
"The detention of Alexei Navalny upon his return to Moscow is unacceptable. I call on the Russian authorities to release him immediately", - Charles Michel wrote on Twitter.
The head of EU diplomacy also appealed to the Russian authorities.
"The Russian authorities must respect Navalny's rights and release him immediately. The politicization of the judicial system is unacceptable", - he wrote on Twitter.
