RUSSIA: THE REAL VICTOR OF THE G7 MEETING AND THE FUTURE OF CRIMEA

  • RUSSIA THE REAL VICTOR OF THE G7 MEETING AND THE FUTURE OF CRIMEA

Kiev: Even in his absence, top political rulers of the world’s most industrialized and democratic countries found themselves discussing `President Vladimir Putin` at the G7. One of the most notable meetings in the world came out with no tangible conclusions, except for the ratification of a single-page paper.

Between August 24th-26th the entire world set their eyes on Biarritz, France for a remarkable progress on the most concerning G7 topics; such as nuclear disarmament, long-term and effective solutions to the flailingfinancial markets, weaponized tax increases in trade between the U.S. and China, global warming, Brexit, increased sanctions on Iran, annexation of Crimeaas well as all other major topics. To all spectator’s dismay, there were simply no cowboys willing to grab the bull by the horns at the leader’s nest.

What caused major anxiety among all participants was President Trump’s eagerness to re-admit Russia back into the G7 league: "I think it would be better to have Russia inside the tent than outside the tent,"words expressed by President Trump himself, which all members of the League found very disconcerting since Russia being the most pressing geopolitical issue on POTUS’ non-public schedule.

A quick memory refresher to 2014 reveals when wasRussia was dispelled from the G8 upon its sudden violation of international law to annex Crimea in 2014. Since then, Russia did not step up its efforts to downplay its aggression, in fact, many are witnessing and feeling day-by-day the growing hostility that the Grand Duchy of Moscow is steadily purporting to increase its military encroachment in both Ukraine and in Georgia

Many were also mentally struck when President Trump intuitively pointed fingers at his predecessor President Obama, when he was directed a question regarding the underlying reasons for the separation of Crimean territory from Ukraine instead of stating the real culprit causing the annexation.

All political indicators of the G7 clearly displayed a gridlock on all fronts with a swift need for reality-check among members while a concrete lack of willingness to push the deals forwardfor Russia in Crimea where de-militarization of the region stands as the most critical challenge waiting to be untangled by the Super 7. Without a unanimous decision-making spirit and a fully integrated, transparent global economy, the League will be bound to move at an even more sluggish pace causing the topics at hand and the parties concerned around the impacted regions to abandon their last fragments of hope, especially when it comes to realizing radical changes and achieving major progress in both the Western and the Eastern Hemispheres.
