CANBERRA (FNI) - On Thursday, January 18th, the drone saved two dying teenagers in the Australian city of Brisbane. This is the first case ever.
“Never before has a drone, fitted with a flotation device, been used to rescue swimmers like this,” John Barilaro, deputy premier of New South Wales, told Reuters.
The rescue took place when lifeguards at Lennox Head, a popular among surfers coastal town in northern New South Wales, were in the middle of their training to use the Westpac Little Ripper Lifesaver drone in order to save swimmers. The rescue took 70 seconds, while the one done by a human would normally take not less than 6 minutes.
