Cairo: A court in Egypt sentenced to two years in prison a singer who starred in a video clip in her underwear.
The singer Shaimaa Ahmed, known under the name Shyma, was arrested in November after her video clip, in which she eats a banana in her underwear. Video caused a storm of outrage across the country, the BBC reported.
According to local media, the court found her guilty of inducing indecent acts, as well as the publication of an obscene video. In addition to Shyma, two years of imprisonment were sentenced in absentia and directed by a video clip.
Shyma previously published a statement on Facebook that she did not expect such a reaction.
"I did not imagine all this would happen and that I would be subjected to such a strong attack from everyone," she wrote in a post that was subsequently deleted.
