Brussels: Today, the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Federica Mogherini, signed with the Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop a framework agreement on expanding cooperation. European External Affairs Service reported.

"Europe and Australia are geographically very far from each other, but we work together every day in the global arena as like-minded people and friends. We have a partnership with opportunities: convergence of our population in order to promote exchange, trade and knowledge sharing. The agreement that we signed today reflects how strong our ties are and how they will grow stronger thanks to our extended exchanges and cooperation for the sake of our peoples and the world", - said Mogherini.

The agreement will allow the European Union and Australia to solve problems in the field of foreign and security policy, sustainable development, climate change and economic and trade issues.

The agreement will determine the future interaction between the European Union and Australia and complement the work to begin negotiations on a comprehensive and high-quality free trade agreement.

On Sunday, August 6, Mogherini, during a press conference on the 40th anniversary of the establishment of a dialogue between ASEAN and the EU in Manila, said the importance of cooperation between the member countries of the European Union and ASEAN.
