Strasbourg: The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has elected a woman as Secretary General for the first time in its 72-year history.
This is stated in the message of the PACE.
"Today, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe elected Despina Hatzivassiliu-Covilis as Secretary General - the first woman to hold a position in the 72-year history of the Assembly. She will serve in office for a five-year term from March 1, 2021," - the PACE noted.
Hatzivassiliu-Tsovilis thanked the members of the Assembly for their support.
