Kiev: New Zealand's borders are likely to remain closed for most of this year, Radio New Zealand reports, citing a statement from New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
“Last year we showed how good we are, and this is what we intend - and what we need to do in 2021 ... We are taking a conservative approach, and I stand for this decision,” - said Ardern.
The Prime Minister named two conditions for opening borders and resuming travel. First, it is the confidence that after being vaccinated, a person will not be able to transmit the virus to others. Secondly, a sufficient number of people must be vaccinated.
A massive vaccination campaign is likely to begin in New Zealand in mid-year. Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 2.2 thousand people have become infected with the coronavirus in the country, 25 have died.
