  • Gazprom pressure may lead to closure of the Nord Stream-2 project

Moscow: Russian Gazprom has warned that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project may be delayed or suspended due to potential difficulties, Reuters reported.

“In the implementation of our major international projects, such as the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, we have faced and may continue to face risks associated with a change in the political situation in various regions associated with such projects ... In exceptional circumstances, including due to political pressure, such changes may lead to the suspension or termination of the project, "- the newspaper quoted the information provided by Gazprom, noting that the Russian company thus acknowledged that there are risks that Nord Stream 2 may be suspended or collapsed.

We add that under the threat of sanctions from the United States, European vessels refused to participate in the Nord Stream 2 project, and two Russian pipelayers, "Academic Chersky" and "Fortuna", were sent to complete the construction of the gas pipeline.

Work was supposed to begin on January 15, 2021, but the Nord Stream 2 operator postponed the construction of the pipe.

The day before, the German Ministry of Economy and Energy indicated that on January 19, the United States would impose sanctions on a Russian ship participating in the completion of Nord Stream 2.
