Kiev: Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, joined the hearing of the
US Senate Committee on Energy and Commerce and made a statement that he
considers the blockchain technology a tool to combat scammers.
The meeting
of the committee focused
on personal data protection, disinformation combating, monitoring of the
content and possible political bias published on Twitter.
Doris Matsui, the representative for California's 6th
congressional district, asked Jack Dorsey about his opinion on the potential
use of blockchain technology to combat disinformation and fraud.
Twitter CEO
replied that it is necessary to have full information about the problems that need
to be solved, and then pay attention to technologies that can aid in this. Blockchain
has a huge potential, and it can be applied in various fields of activity.
First, it is necessary to understand how the technology will help solve
existing problems, and the company's specialists are already working on with
this matter, Dorsey added.
Many mass media reported that crypto scammers used the
Twitter to create accounts and extort digital assets, including on behalf of
famous people.
During the
hearing, Doris Matsui drew attention to the imperfection of the legislation
regarding blockchain and stated that she would take part in its development
together with the interested parties.
